Fishing is one of the most hazardous industries in the world. Every year between 20 and 30 fishermen lose their lives in UK and Irish waters. The vast majority of these fatalities are caused by man overboard, capsizing or major leaks and flooding. Now, thanks to the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI), you and your crew can reduce your chances of becoming another statistic.
Now you can provide your boat and crew with MOB Guardian – an innovative safety system that monitors a vessel’s position and automatically alerts emergency services of a man overboard. The technology works by automatically transmitting regular updates of a vessel’s position, course and speed via satellite to the RNLI. The system also includes Personal Safety Devices (PSDs) that automatically alert emergency services of a man overboard. If you fall into the water, an alarm is activated onboard and automatically search and rescue organisations are alerted of the positions of you and your boat - typically within two minutes.
The RNLI and marine safety equipment manufacturer McMurdo have signed a partnership to provide the system to fishermen at the lowest possible price. AWS (Active Web Solutions), also in partnership with the RNLI, developed the IT infrastructure for the system and manage the airtime package for fishermen. MOB Guardian is now available and new order forms can be requested by calling the MOB Guardian information line on 01202 663142.
The RNLI, Signature Industries and AWS are convinced that it will make a major contribution to improving safety at sea..
How it works:

|

|
|
Step One: MOB Guardian Personal Safety Device, worn whilst working on deck, is constantly in radio contact with the base unit. |
Step Two: Falling overboard breaks the radio link and automatically triggers an onboard alarm, simultaneously sending a signal to the search and rescue services. |
Step Three: An alarm is activated onshore with the position and details of the casualty, typically within two minutes of the man going overboard. |
Step Four: This enables the emergency services to initiate a search and rescue operation immediately. | For more infromation about MOB Guardian, please complete our Registration Form. |
